Rising Penetration of Triple-Play Services Encouraging MVNO Establishment

Countries around the world are observing a significant surge in the adoption of triple-play services, owing to which the number of mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) is increasing. Triple-play services are bundled packs of television, latency-sensitive telephone, and broadband internet services. These services have been extremely successful in North America, especially the U.S., wherein telecom operators are offering them to attract clients and offer a better value.

Moreover, the increasing focus of market players on segment-targeted pricing and innovative distribution strategies will drive the MVNO market at a CAGR of 7.1% during the forecast period (2021–2031). The market revenue stood at $66,582.0 million in 2020, and it will reach $139,663.0 million by 2031. MVNOs identify the potential client base to expand their business and attract customers through sharp pricing strategies. Additionally, the rising collaborations between MVNOs and mobile network operators (MNOs) contribute to the market growth worldwide.

Nowadays, MVNOs, such as Lycamobile Group, Voiceworks BV, Truphone Ltd., DataXoom Inc., Red Pocket Inc., CITIC Telecom International Holdings Ltd., Asahi Net Inc., T-Mobile US Inc., BT Group plc, AT&T Inc., Consumer Cellular Inc., Verizon Communications Inc., and Airvoice Wireless LLC, are offering roaming, discount, retail, telecom, business, migrant, cellular machine-to-machine (M2M), and media and entertainment services. In the coming years, the demand for cellular M2M services will accelerate the fastest due to the surging adoption of cellular connectivity in machines ranging from vending machines to automobiles and developments in the 3G M2M technology.

According to P&S Intelligence, Europe recorded the highest number of MVNOs in the preceding years, and it is expected to retain its dominance in the upcoming years. This can be primarily ascribed to the increasing adoption of integrated services, such as voice over internet protocol (VoIP), in the region. Additionally, the region accounts for a considerable average net revenue per user (ARPU), as people here can afford expensive luxuries. Moreover, the increasing penetration of smartphones in European countries will result in the rapid establishment of MVNOs in the future.

Thus, the soaring popularity of triple-play services, rising collaborations between MNOs and MVNOs, and increasing availability of affordable services will amplify the number of MVNOs globally.
